He received both his M.S.W. (1988, Wurzweiler School of Social Work)) And Ph.D. (1976, Ferkhauf Graduate School) from Yeshiva University in New York City. In addition, Dr. Schwartz is a Certified Psychoanalyst, having graduated from N.P.A.P. (National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis) in 1992. He now lives and writes about psychotherapy in Boulder, Colorado.

Before entering private practice on a full-time basis, Dr. Schwartz gained vast clinical experience in Bronx Lebanon Hospital's Outpatient Psychiatry Department, F.E.G.S., the Continuing Day Treatment Program for Chronically Mentally Ill patients, and the Geriatric Center's Adult Outpatient Department of Psychiatry, both at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. All the above are in New York City.

Dr. Schwartz is now in practice part-time and is available for consultation. He also conducts psychotherapy through Skype Video, FaceTime, and Zoom for clients who live in distant places worldwide.

He continues to write articles for his website at http://www.allanschwartztherapy.net and                        https://psychotherapy-explorations.blogspot.com/

Dr. Schwartz believes in dual modalities for psychotherapy. These modalities include Cognitive-Behavioral techniques with Psycho-dynamic and mindful meditation. However, long experience has taught him that the relationship between patient and therapist is the key that helps people improve their coping skills, regardless of the modality or therapeutic philosophy of the practitioner.
